This hike started from the Blue Sky Ecological reserve parking lot, and headed East along the Green Valley Truck Trail through Warren Canyon. It's partly shaded along that trail and pretty nice. You can take the Creekside Trail for a short period, though that's something of a misnomer since you don't really see flowing water– or at least I didn't see any through the dense brush.

After you've travelled more than a mile you turn South towards the Lake Poway dam. Before you get to the dam you pass an area with many shaded picnic tables and a bathroom. The sign said it's a campground, apparently.

The climb to the top of the dam was hot in full sun without any shade (most of this hike is exposed), but you get some nice views going up. Not only of the dam itself, which was mildly impressive, but also looking out over Warren Canyon. After that you make a loop around Lake Poway and return back the way you came.

Overall this was an enjoyable hike with a variety of things to see.

Some shade along the Green Valley Truck Trail. It was greener along the Creekside Trail, but no creek in sight.

Approaching the Lake Poway dam.

The Lake Poway Trail went up the dam to loop around the lake.

Top of the dam.

A great spot for lunch looking out over Lake Poway.
