This was a nice natural setting not too far from home. It's close to residential areas, but large enough to feel sheltered away from urban sprawl. You do see some houses and roads, and its proximity seeems to make it a popular destination where you'll encounter a lot of other people.
There's a variety of trees along the paths. The area with redwoods was especially nice, almost a tiny valley tucked between some hillsides. Apparently the ivy is an invasive pest, but it too looked quite nice blanketing the trees in another area.
A lookout platform in the redwoods.
Oh yes, my friends are out there!
At various points during the walk I heard the chattering of squirrels. Despite being on the lookout I saw zero furry buddies. I'd nearly given up, but at our walk's return point we got lucky.
Two red squirrels were foraging in and around some fruit trees, on the grassy hillsides by the Hoyt Arboretum parking lot and viewpoint. It was really fun watching them scurry between the branches trying to grab whatever fruit was still hanging around.
Arboreal acrobatics to reach some leftover winter fruit.
